Saturday marked our third Cue Away Cancer pool tournament at the Grand, and it was a huge success! We raised more than $5,000 for the day — assuring that Tony Foundation can provide a check for assistance to another family thanks to your generosity as players, donors, sponsors, and volunteers.
First, our special thanks to the Grand for hosting us once again. Rachel and the other owners and staff always go the extra mile to make sure we have a great experience for this tourney. Thanks also to NAPA ATX for helping to spread the word and being a huge supporter of what we do. Nick Maronna, one of the local NAPA owners, gave some words of heartfelt support at the beginning of the tourney, and presented Tony Foundation with two checks totaling $350. We also had an incredible array of raffle items donated by Rachel and the Grand as well as other contributors — overall, the raffle raised nearly $2,000 on its own!
We also want to thank Amanda Lee Hinojosa for providing delicious food all day (baked potatoes with smoked pork and cheese, amazing) and Shawn Rutledge for setting up a table game for prizes that was a huge hit for everyone. Thank you all so much!
There was some incredible competition on the tables! At the end of the day, Justin Pena and Abe Vargas brought home first place. Great show, guys! Bill Hyde and William Hamner finished in second place, a strong showing for this first-time pairing!
Cody Sparks and Heath Mendenhall continued their streak of finishing in the late rounds by bringing home the third place trophies. Vincent Villalva and Alonna Beatty shot their way to fourth place with a great day of skillful pool.
We can’t wait to do this again in the spring! Stay tuned, and don’t miss your chance to participate in this fun event to help families in need.
