Helping families in crisis due to cancer is our mission at Tony Foundation (and the reason for our existence). So last Tuesday, Jan. 15, was an emotional day for us. There were a few tears, but also smiles and hugs when we met Johnny and Briana.
They welcomed us into their home without knowing exactly why we were there. They have three sons, ages 13, 11, and 3, and the family have stayed strong and positive during Johnny’s treatments for advanced nasopharyngeal cancer. Johnny has been unable to work, and has lost 100 pounds (among other side effects) during the past year. He’s been through 3 cycles of chemo and 33 radiation treatments. Briana is his main caregiver. Before we met in person, she told us that “life keeps happening regardless of whether we are ready or not.” But she also told me that this crisis has shown them how strong they are and how much they need each other, and it’s brought them all closer together.
We all need each other. Johnny and Briana are the first family we’ve been able to help, thanks to your help, but they won’t be the last. I invite you to watch our short video and please ride with us on this journey to help many more deserving families like them.
